Fwiw we are both atomic fans and own backland carbon boots and assorted other products but to me the atk raider hagan core design is the complete package if only it were a bit less expensive but you do get what you pay for.
Atomic backland boot review.
The backland carbon skis very well for a 1200 gram boot and should be enough boot for many skiers looking for a very light touring friendly boot that can still hold up to hard skiing.
It is not a freeride oriented boot the mtn lab is a freeride oriented boot and should not really be compared to one.
The totally re designed atomic backland pro alpine touring ski boots feature a new minimalist polyamide shell and boa fit system that lets you adjust the fit of the lower boot on the fly with a twist of a dial.
The atomic backland boot series are intended to be lightweight high performance dedicated ski touring boots and are a significant departure from anything the company has done before.
I would not be surprised if gadgetry such as the boa system and magnetic cuff closure get trashed in the models of the future but the carbon fiber reinforcement extended range of motion and fit are remarkable and will are likely the future of the backland series.
The backland carbon is a state of the art lightweight touring boot that is impressive but is unlikely to be a game changer.
If you thought the atomic backland boots were awesome before this is the year to be amazed all over again.
If the new backland binding has this lifer thing sorted then i would give it 2 thumbs up as an equal to the atk.
Standout features of the old backland boots remain the smooth and long.
